Festival of the Loire

Brittany Ferries is now offering 10 return trips FREE on the Portsmouth-Caen/Ouisterham crossing

on 16th September, for a car/boat/trailer including two persons to attend the Festival of the Loire,

and the organisers will provide free accommodation and food.

Boats of the River Thames will be the guests of honour at the biggest European gathering of traditional and contemporary river boats in Orleans, France, this September from the 18th to the 22nd. It will be a great opportunity to showcase the River Thames and its iconic boats and traditions, and those willing to bring their boats get a very subsidised holiday!

Every two years, Orleans pays homage to the River Loire, a UNESCO world heritage site, with five days of festivities – the quays will be centre stage for over 220 boats and 700 boatmen, with regattas and processions, demonstrations of sailors skills, local craftsmen and foods, sea shanties, street theatre, evening concerts and entertainments, a sailing professional’s village and a English village. Any ideas for our English Village? Let us know. Over 750,000 people came two years ago. If you’ve never been to a French boat festival such as Brest or Douarnenez, it is a wonderful experience.
